Installing the front panel

Use this information to install the front panel.

Before you install the front panel, complete the following steps:
  1. Read Safety and Installation guidelines.
  2. Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, orienting the compute node with the bezel pointing toward you.

To install the front panel, complete the following steps.

  1. Remove the cover and air baffles, if they are not already removed (see Removing the compute node cover).

  2. With the front edge of the compute node protruding slightly past the edge of the work surface, align the bottom edge of the front panel with the front of the compute node chassis; then, carefully rotate the front panel into place on the compute node.
  3. Using a T8 Torx screwdriver, install the two screws that secure the front panel to each side of the compute node chassis (four screws, total).
  4. Carefully place the compute node to the up-side-down orientation.
  5. Rotate the customer information and network access tags to the open position.
  6. Using a T8 Torx screwdriver, install the four screws that secure the front panel to the bottom of the compute node chassis. One of the screws is accessed through a hole in the tag retainer.
  7. Using a 5 mm (3/16-inch) nut driver, install the two nuts on the KVM connector.
  8. Carefully return the compute node to the bottom-side-down orientation.
  9. Install the air baffles, if you removed them.
  10. Install the cover (see Installing the compute node cover).
  11. If the compute node you are replacing had a drive-type-specific storage drive bezel, such as a 1.8 inch solid-state drive bezel, remove the original bezel from the new front panel and install the bezel that you removed from the old front panel on the new front panel (see Removing the bezel and Installing the bezel). Retain the original bezel for later use.
  12. Install any removed storage drives, optional drive components, and hard disk drive bay fillers (see Installing a hot-swap hard disk drive, Installing a solid state drive mounting sleeve, or Installing a 1.8-inch solid state drive)
  13. If you are replacing the front panel, install the ID label plate that has machine type and serial number information that you removed from the front panel you are replacing:
    1. If a blank ID label plate is on the new front panel, remove it and discard (see Removing the ID label plate).
    2. Install the ID label plate from the front panel you are replacing on the new front panel (see Installing the ID label plate).
Note: If your compute node has an RFID tag, it is already attached to the ID label plate.
  14. If any information is entered on the customer information tags on the front panel you are replacing, transfer this information to the tags on the new front panel.
