Show installed updates and Show and install updates tasks do not display all updates

The show updates views do not display all updates. Some updates are missing.

Problem

When using Show installed updates, Show and install updates, viewing update groups, or other places where updates are listed, not all updates are displayed.

Investigation

Ensure that the system is unlocked and the collected software inventory is complete and current. Once inventory completes, it needs to be processed, which can take several minutes. When complete, the update information on what is needed or current should be accurate.

Explanation

Update manager will include in these views only the updates that update manager supports. Therefore, Show installed updates should not be considered a complete view of all updates installed on a system, but only a view of the updates supported for management by update manager. This rule applies to all views.

Likewise, updates that cannot be managed due to inadequate information might not be displayed. If an update is installed but information on that update has yet to be acquired by a Check for updates, the update will not be visible for management.

Updates that are part of a collection, such as a service pack or larger update package, will not be individually displayed unless the Related resources action is chosen on the parent update collection.

Resolution

If an update is supported by update manager and is not being displayed, ensure that information on the update has been downloaded by running the Check for updates task. Also, ensure that the collected software inventory for the system is current and complete.
