Removing the hard disk drive cage and backplane assembly

Use this information to remove the hard disk drive cage and backplane assembly.

Before you begin

Before you remove the hard disk drive cage and backplane assembly, complete the following steps:
  1. Read Safety and Installation guidelines.
  2. If the compute node is installed in an Flex System chassis, remove it (see Removing a compute node from a chassis for instructions).
  3. Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, orienting the compute node with the bezel pointing toward you.

Procedure

To remove the hard disk drive cage and backplane assembly, complete the following steps.

hard disk drive cage and backplane assembly removal

  1. Remove the cover (see Removing the compute node cover).
  2. Remove the hot-swap hard disk drives and hard disk drive bay fillers (see Removing a hot-swap hard disk drive).
  3. Lift up on the rear of the assembly to disconnect it from the connector on the system board.
  4. Remove the assembly from the compute node at an angle.

What to do next

If you are instructed to return the hard disk drive cage and backplane assembly, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
