Removing a USB flash drive

Use this information to remove a USB flash drive from the upper or lower compute node. USB flash drives can be installed in both the upper and lower compute nodes.

Before you remove a USB flash drive from the upper or lower compute node, complete the following steps:
  1. Read Safety and Installation guidelines.
  2. If the Flex System x222 Compute Node is installed in a chassis, remove it (see Removing a compute node from a chassis for instructions).
  3. Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, orienting the compute node with the bezel pointing toward the left.

To remove a USB flash drive, complete the following steps.

  1. Remove the upper compute node (see Removing the upper compute node).
  2. Locate the USB flash drive in the upper or lower compute node (see System-board connectors).
Note: You can install up to two USB flash drives each in the upper and lower compute nodes. If you are removing the USB flash drive that is closer to the system board, you might need to remove the upper USB flash drive to access it.
  3. Pull the USB flash drive out of the connector.
If you are instructed to return a USB flash drive, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
