Use this information to install a microprocessor-retention
assembly. Microprocessor-retention assemblies are in both the upper
and lower compute nodes.
Before you install a microprocessor-retention assembly, complete
the following steps:
- Read Safety and Installation guidelines.
- If the Flex System x222 Compute Node is
installed in a chassis, remove it (see Removing a compute node from a chassis for
instructions).
- Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective
surface, orienting the compute node with the bezel pointing toward
the left.
To install a microprocessor-retention assembly, complete
the following steps.
- Remove the upper compute node (see Removing the upper compute node).
- Locate the microprocessor connector in the upper or lower
system board (see System-board layouts).
- Make sure that the microprocessor socket release levers
are in the open position.
- Align the microprocessor-retention assembly on the system
board.
Attention:
- Do not allow the microprocessor-retention assembly to touch the
microprocessor socket. Doing so might result in permanent damage
to the system board.
- Do not touch the contacts in the microprocessor socket. Touching
these contacts might result in permanent damage to the system board.
- Using a T20 Torx screwdriver, install the four screws to
secure the microprocessor-retention assembly.
- Install the heat-sink key on the microprocessor retention
assemblies.
- If necessary, install the microprocessor and heat sink
(see Installing a microprocessor and heat sink).
After you install a microprocessor-retention assembly, complete
the following steps:
- Install the upper compute node (see Installing the upper compute node for instructions).
- Install the Flex System x222 Compute Node into
the chassis (see Installing a compute node in a chassis for
instructions).
