Upgrading the management software to version 1.3.1

The management software upgrade to version 1.3.1 affects the managed resources in your IBM® Flex System environment.

For a detailed summary of update procedures for all IBM Flex System components, see the IBM Flex System Firmware Update Guides.

When you upgrade to version 1.3.1 of the IBM Flex System Manager management software version 1.3.1, the upgrade changes all of the management network (Eth0) operating-system MAC addresses. Depending on your network configuration, this might cause problems with managed resources in your IBM Flex System environment. For more information about the problem itself, see RETAIN tip H205755. For information about solving the problem, see Update problems.

Immediately after you install the upgrade the IBM Flex System Manager management software, you must update the firmware for all components that are managed by the IBM Flex System Manager to the latest firmware levels.

Important: If the firmware of each component in the IBM Flex System Manager management domain is not updated to the latest level, you might have problems in your IBM Flex System environment.

To update the firmware from the management node, follow the instructions in Updating chassis components.

If the IBM Flex System Manager management node does not have access to the Internet, you can update each of the components directly. For each chassis component use the applicable Quick Start Guide document, listed in the "Performing updates" section of Managing hardware.

Note: You can obtain firmware updates from the Fix Central website. From the FixCentral website, select PureSystems from the Product Group list; then, select PureFlex System from the Select from PureSystems® list. Make sure that you obtain updates with a release date of August 2013 or later.
