Removing the Flex System Manager Types 7955, 8731, and 8734 from a chassis

Use these instructions to remove a Flex System Manager Types 7955, 8731, and 8734 from a Flex System Enterprise Chassis.

Before you begin

Before you remove the Flex System Manager Types 7955, 8731, and 8734 from the chassis, you must configure the management software so that it no longer manages Chassis Management Module (CMM)s.
Important: If you removed the Flex System Manager Types 7955, 8731, and 8734 without unmanaging the Chassis Management Module (CMM), see Recovering a Chassis Management Module (CMM) after removing the management node.

To unmanage the Chassis Management Module (CMM) and remove the Flex System Manager Types 7955, 8731, and 8734, complete the following steps:
  1. Read Safety and Installation guidelines.
  2. On the management software web interface Home page, click the Plug-ins tab.
  3. Under IBM Flex System Manager, click the FSM Management Domain link.
  4. On the Management Domain page, select all of the chassis under management software; then, click Unmanage.
  5. Use either the management software web interface to turn off the node or press the power button to turn off the Flex System Manager Types 7955, 8731, and 8734 (see Turning off the management node for more information).

Procedure

To remove the node from a chassis, complete the following steps:

  1. Open the front handle as shown in the illustration. The node moves out of the node bay approximately 0.6 cm (0.25 inch).

    Attention:
    • To maintain proper system cooling, do not operate the Flex System Enterprise Chassis without a node or node bay filler installed in each node bay.
    • When you remove the node, note the node bay number. Reinstalling a node into a different node bay from the one it was removed from can have unintended consequences. Some configuration information and update options are established according to node bay number. If you reinstall the node into a different node bay, you might have to reconfigure the node.
  2. Pull the node out of the node bay.
  3. Install either a node bay filler or another node in the node bay within 1 minute.

What to do next

If you are instructed to return the Flex System Manager Types 7955, 8731, and 8734, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
