Download of updates fails with an error of download size exceeded

This problem occurs when the Maximum disk space to use setting is set to an amount that is too small to accommodate the updates you want to download.

Problem

When you try to download updates, the download fails and the task history log contains message 'ATKUPD812E Cannot download updates because the updates library would exceed its configured maximum size of size MB.'

Resolution

This problem occurs when the Maximum disk space to use setting is set to an amount that is smaller than the size of the updates you want to download. To correct the problem, complete these steps:

  1. On the Updates page, locate the Settings Tasks group and click Change settings.
  2. Click the Location tab to display the Location page.
  3. The storage location for updates cannot be changed, but it is displayed for reference.
  4. Increase the Maximum disk space to use value so that it is it is large enough to accommodate the size of the updates to be downloaded. This value is in Megabytes (MB).
  5. If you cannot increase this setting due to a lack of disk space on your system, narrow down your download criteria so that the size of the download is smaller.
