Upgrading a chassis with two CMMs

Use these instructions to upgrade a Flex System chassis that has two Flex System CMMs. You can upgrade the CMMs while the chassis is powered on.

Use one of the following procedures to upgrade a Flex System Chassis Management Module to a Lenovo Flex SystemChassis Management Module 2.

Note:
  • Throughout the following procedure, the "Flex System Chassis Management Module" is referred to as the "legacy CMM" and the "Lenovo Flex SystemChassis Management Module 2" is referred to as the "Lenovo CMM 2."
  • These instructions assume that the chassis is connected to power.
Before you upgrade the CMMs, complete the following steps:
  1. Unmanage the chassis in Lenovo XClarity Administrator. For detailed instruction, see Unmanaging a chassis.
  2. Save the legacy CMM configuration file to a remote system (see Saving a CMM configuration for information).
  3. Stop all CMM local and remote sessions before you proceed, to avoid an unexpected termination of sessions.
  4. Remove any external devices that block access to the rear of the chassis.
  5. Mark and disconnect all cables from the CMMs.

To upgrade a chassis with two legacy CMMs to a chassis with two Lenovo CMM 2s, using manual configuration transfer, complete the following steps:

  1. Remove the legacy CMMs (see Removing a Chassis Management Module 2 for instructions). It is crucial to remove BOTH legacy CMMs from the chassis before inserting Lenovo CMM2.
  2. Install a Lenovo CMM 2 (see Replacing a Chassis Management Module 2 for instructions).
A new Lenovo CMM 2 typically starts in the manufacturing default configuration following an upgrade. For information about connecting to a new CMM for the first time, see Connecting to the CMM.
  3. Restore the CMM configuration that was saved at the beginning of this procedure (see Restoring a saved CMM configuration for information).
  4. If you are unable to restore the saved CMM configuration file, manually configure the new Lenovo CMM 2 (see Configuring the CMM).
  5. Insert the second Lenovo CMM 2 which will start as stand-by.
After the CMMs have been upgraded and verified as functioning, complete the following steps:
  1. Reconnect any cables to the CMMs that were removed (see Cabling the CMM for instructions).
  2. Installed any external devices that were removed from the rear of the chassis to access the CMMs.
  3. Manage the chassis in Lenovo XClarity Administrator. For detailed instruction, see Managing chassis.
